Heartbreak at Home: Bruins 3 - Nitehawks 2 (OT)

After a tentative first period in Grand Forks, the Nitehawks stepped up with 2 in the 2nd and another 3 in the third to take a 5-0 win in Grand Forks. But that was last night.....

Tonight was a different story! After spending almost the entire opening period with the visitors on their heels and the Bruin goalie seeing more rubber than an 8 lane highway, Grand Forks got a lucky bounce and silenced the Beaver Valley crowd with more than 3 minutes to go before the break. BV finally broke the steel wall, also know as Robert Dunsmuir. Brandon Butlin on the pp, and Luke Reimer would give BV the 2-1 lead heading into a pivotal 3rd. The chink in the rookie goalies armour seemed to mend between the two periods as he was once again unsolvable, while GF made their one good opportunity count very late to tie the game and send it to OT. Here is where it all unravels.... a brutal holding the stick call in OT gave GF the power play and they made no mistake for their first win of the season.

Granted, its not playoffs, but why would you call a weak penalty like that in OT after letting so much go during regulation??

Regardless of the outcome, it became blatantly evident that this year, Grand Forks has put together a team that may not be the proverbial "door mat of the division" that they have been known for in years past. I don't consider it an embarrassment to have lost this game at all, although one can aptly discern that this game infact  could have been "stolen" by Dunsmuir. If that indeed was the case, only time will tell. BV plays the Bruins 3 times throughout October, we will decide then.

Next game for BV is Friday, Sept 21 in Castlegar, and then on Saturday, Sept 22 at home, again vs Castlegar.

Also I would like to pay mention to Am Fords Ride and Drive Event. On Saturday, Sept 22, come on down to AM Ford and test drive a new Ford car or Truck between 9:30am and 4pm. Every test drive can earn $20 for our very own Beaver Valley Nitehawks!! So come on out and support your local team!!
