Hawks Humbled by Saints

After back-to-back 4-2 losses to Castlegar, and playing their third game in three nights, it didnt take a rocket scientist to predict the outcome from Sunday evenings tilt between Beaver Valley and the Selkirk Saints.

Although Selkirk boasts an almost completely new roster, their age and experience gave them a huge edge in play throughout the game. With 9 of the 16 confirmed signees to BV being rookies themselves, they were hard pressed to gain much headway even with the help of coaches Jeremy Cominotto and Kevin Limbert lacing up to take the ice.

The game started out with both teams scoring within the first 1:30, but Selkirk would take leads of 3-1 and 6-2 after 40 minutes. The third didnt fair any better as tempers started to flare regardless of the friendly nature the game was supposed to follow, ending with several players removed in the final minutes and Selkirk finishing with an 8-2 win.

I had a chance to catch up with Saints forward Mason Spear, you can catch the audio here. Spear spent 3 seasons with the Nitehawks but had short stints in both Kimberley and Fernie. Last year Mason racked up 21 goals and 28 assists over 42 regular season games with the Hawks in preparation for their KIJHL title run where he put up 16 points in 17 games. Good Luck in the future Mase!!

Beaver Valley has one more exhibition game on Tuesday in Creston before starting their regular season campaign on Friday in Grand Forks.
